Empowering Youth through the INUA YOUTH Program at Kishimba Secondary School

Under the auspices of the Fungua Trust, Kishimba Secondary School in the Kahama District witnessed a transformative initiative aimed at empowering its students through the INUA YOUTH Program. Spearheaded by Ms. Joyce Nkwabi, the Headmistress of Kishimba Secondary School, the program unfolded a series of impactful interventions designed to uplift and support the youth.

On March 28, 2024, Ms. Nkwabi introduced The Fungua Trust to the students, setting the stage for a collaborative effort to foster holistic development and growth within the school community.

Mr. Ernest Mwamwaja, representing The Fungua Trust, engaged the students, articulating the core objectives of the INUA YOUTH Program. His session aimed to inspire and empower the youth, equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.

A significant highlight of the program was the distribution of reusable sanitary pads to the 417 girls in Form I and II, accompanied by their teachers and Mr. Mwamwaja. This initiative, which provides sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions, underscores The Fungua Trust’s commitment to addressing critical needs and promoting the well-being of young girls in the community.

In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, student Joyce Samora Kanga expressed appreciation to Hon. Dr. Shogo Mlozi-Sedoyeka, CEO & Founder of The Fungua Trust, for pioneering initiatives such as the establishment of EAC clubs. These clubs serve as platforms for youth engagement and advocacy, nurturing leadership skills and fostering a sense of belonging within the East African Community.

The Fungua Trust extends its gratitude to Barrick Gold Corporation for its generous contribution, which played a pivotal role in the success of the INUA YOUTH Program. Through their support, 1250 reusable sanitary pads were distributed to form I and II girls across three secondary schools, marking a significant step towards promoting menstrual health and hygiene in the region. Additionally, the ongoing establishment of EAC clubs in respective schools signifies a continued commitment to youth empowerment and regional integration.

As The Fungua Trust continues to champion youth-centered initiatives, it remains dedicated to fostering a conducive environment for the holistic development and empowerment of young people across the East African Community.
